Therapist in San Francisco

To say San Francisco has changed over the past few years would be an understatement.

The housing crisis added an additional layer of stress to an already-dynamic city. With skyrocketing rents and housing prices, folks were working harder than ever to make ends meet. That meant longer hours at work, the pressure of competition in the workplace, and poor work-life balance. For some, even those in high-paying tech jobs, dreams of home ownership were delayed. For others, affording even a tiny apartment was a dicey proposition.

...Then came COVID-19. Mayor London Breed issued the first stay-at-home order in March 2020. Almost everyone within the 7x7 was soon working from home, feeling cooped up, feeling anxious about the pandemic, and isolated from their coworkers and friends. Happy hours in the Mission? Out of the question. Saturday hangs at Dolores Park with friends? Not the same with social distancing.

The stress of dealing with MUNI delays on your way to work downtown was replaced with loneliness and anxiety, as the days blended into each other.

Understandably, many experienced the pandemic as traumatic, and began reaching out to therapists for help resolving trauma through EMDR. For couples, sheltering in place for so long put a strain on relationships, which led many to seek couples therapy.
